2 packets oreos (crushed)
60g ground almonds
Two handfulls of frozen berries (defrosted to room temperature)
Juice of one lemon.
200g of natural soy yogurt

    Yummy Vegan Shepherd’s Pie

    Serves 6-8 people

    Ingredients

    • 1kg potatoes
    • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
    • 1 large onion, chopped
    • 1 green capsicum, chopped
    • 2 carrots, coarsely grated
    • 2 garlic cloves
    • 1 1/4 mushroom, roughly cut
    • 800g beans, drained
    • 2 1/2 cups veggie stock
    • 1 tsp yeast extract
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 1 tsp mixed herbs
    • dried breadcrumbs or chopped nuts for the topping
    • salt and ground pepper
    1. Bring a large pan of water to boil. Add the unpeeled potatoes and cook for about 30 minutes until tender. Drain, reserving a little of the cooking water.
    2. As soon as the potatoes are cool enough to handle, remove the skin. Mash the potatoes with olive oil, adding enough of the reserved cooking water to make a smooth puree. Season well with salt and pepper.
    3. Heat sunflower oil in a large, heavy-based frying pan. Add the chopped onion, capsicum, carrots and garlic and fry over a low heat, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes until softened.
    4. Stir in the mushrooms and beans. Cook for 2 minutes more then stir in the stock, yeast extract, bay leaves and mixed herbs. Simmer for 15 minutes.
    5. Preheat the grill. Remove and discard the bay leaves from the vegetable and bean mixture. Then tip it into a gratin dish. Spoon the mash potatoes in dollops and sprinkle the breadcrumbs or chopped nuts over the top. Grill for 5 minutes. Serve immediately straight from the dish.

We love human rights. We love animal rights. We put our love on top, baby.

(Ok, no real connection to any world issues, we just think that this song is fantastic).

Your chicken nuggets are worth this?

I can’t understand.

And your scrambled eggs are worth this? They are sorting out the male chicks and grinding them up alive since they will never be able to lay eggs or be “of use” to the industry. Think about what you’re eating.

I don’t know why…but I find this to be totally adorable. I know i know they’re being led to slaughter, but baby chicks are too cute!!

Yeah, baby chicks are cute… but there is nothing cute about this situation or the lives they are going to live or the suffering they’re about to endure. Why is watching them on a conveyor belt/getting thrown into a grinder cute? Chicks are cute in their natural environment. This is nothing short of disgusting and barbaric.

This is so sad. And a huge reason why I can’t stand vegetarians who go vegetarian “for the animals” yet regularly eat eggs. More lives are lost making your omelet than having a steak instead. You really shouldn’t be having either. Go Vegan.

The fuck? These babies are being tossed into a chute that will lead them to their untimely, gruesome deaths, and all you can say is that they’re CUTE?! I’m just…urrrgh…people…

Notzarella, the incredible vegan cheese replacement.

Finally! An amazing vegan cheese available in Australia! Notzarella is becoming quite famous for its standout melting properties which hold it in much higher regard than many vegan cheeses available.

I just ‘donated’ and will be receiving a block of this cheese within the week. Fingers crossed it’s as good as it claims!

Check the website, it sure made me hungry. Also like the facebook group and you get 10% off.

    Harvard Food Plate Disses Milk.

    Harvard disses milk

Harvard University nutritionists have decided to tweak the USDA’s new “My Plate” chart in a move that is sure to piss off the dairy industry.

In June, the USDA updated the old food pyramid and put out a healthy eating pie chart called “My Plate.”  The chart depicted a relatively positive diet but almost as an afterthought, tossed a glass of milk on the side urging eaters to have a glass with every meal.  The problem is that almost any reasonable nutritionist will tell you that a serving of dairy with every meal is far too much and Harvard nutritionists agree.

The Ivy League school decided to release their own My Plate which shows a glass of water in place of the milk.  They urge eaters to drink lots of water, tea, or coffee, and avoid sugary drinks while limiting their dairy. Their defense of such a non-traditional move was this:

“High intake [of dairy] can increase the risk of prostate cancer and possibly ovarian cancer.  Plus, dairy products can be high in saturated fat as well as retinal, which at high levels can paradoxically weaken bones.”

The human body is made of about 70% water so telling people to drink more of it does seem more important than telling them to drink more milk.

Is that animal bones in your dessert? Mmmm yummy!
Paddlepops - like all street products, not suitable for vegetarians.
Gelatine has done it again, by cropping up in all sorts of products, we here at Make a Ruckus have had to avoid street icecream products due to their desire to use beef-derived gelatine in their icecreams.
Gelatine? Beef derived? Surely there’s not animal flesh in my icecream?
Well that’s where your wrong, found in many yoghurts, confectionaries and icecreams (Iknow, all the good stuff!) gelatine is a colourless and flavourless substance that is derived from animal skin and bones to go into your dessert.
But it’s not necessary, gelatine can also be derived from agar-agar (seaweed) and other plants.
While we have decided to stop the excuses and be strict with our gelatine intake, we have also continued to believe that making noise about a product is effective in promoting change. Today we wrote a polite email to streets, explaining the concerns of vegetarians (and people who just don’t like having animal bones snuck into their treats). It is interesting to note that streets are proud of their use of Halal certified beef gelatine, which indicates that they are interested in dietary needs, and we suggested that a plant-based source will allow for them to keep their proud halal certification.
One voice is good, but the power of the masses causes mass change! Don’t let our email stand alone, please take 2 minutes to reblog this and then email streets yourself asking if they will consider changing their gelatine source.
Look, you don’t even have to search for the site, click here!
Please take the time to spread the word and email streets, because let’s face it, everyone loves dessert.
